11/12/2006

It's been a busy week at the Power House in Baltimore, Maryland.

It started out Sunday with our three services. Bob Kyser brought the communion message for Morning Worship. That afternoon at Kids' Church he shared about some of his travels in Africa. We continued the Africa theme that evening as Bob told about the church's work with AIDS orphans in Kenya. After the services Bob went out to eat with the young adults.

Bob flew back to Missouri mid-morning on Monday. That afternoon I rode with Dave Anderson and Len Young up to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, for our annual field employee meeting. We were there with the rest of the staff through noon on Thursday.

Around 85 kids came in from the rain on Wednesday for SonRisers. Along with the kids the rain brought a leak in the same spot the builder fixed a couple of months ago. We get him back next week to check it out and try again.

That night the Adult Disciples group watched a video. It was a recording of an interview Bill Hybels did with Bono that I saw last summer at the Willow Creek Leadership Summit. In it he discussed the AIDS crisis in Africa and ways people in America can make a difference.

On Friday I attend the "R.E.A.L. Leadership" training event here in Baltimore. The teacher was John Maxwell. The teaching was marketed to the business community so InJOY (Maxwell's organization) provided pastors complimentary tickets, lunch, and books.

That evening was Pizza Church. We collected cell phone numbers from some of the kids. We're going to test out sending text messages 10 minutes before church starts to remind them to come and see if this helps increase both numbers and consistency.

We had our monthly Solid Rock Cafe on Saturday night. I think it was the biggest one we've had since moving into the new building. We also tried out text messaging 4 kids who gave us their cell phone numbers to remind them that it was about to start. All four came so we'll be expanding our testing of this system.

Looking ahead to next week we have our full schedule of activities. In addition we have our annual business meeting scheduled for Wednesday evening.

Along with the individuals and activities mentioned, please keep the following individuals in the forefront of your prayers:
