9/9/2006

It's been a busy week at the Power House in Baltimore, Maryland.

It started out Sunday morning with our communion service. We had a family from a congregation in Missouri visit us at the service. The daughter is beginning college at Johns Hopkins University so we're hoping she'll be a part of our congregation while she's living here.

At Kids' Church the kids began a "Drawing the Bible" curriculum for the fall semester. In it the kids create their own picture Bibles adding a new story each week.

With holiday weekend family gatherings and several people out of town we anticipated a small group for Evening Worship. We were correct but had two new people come and join with the other few who had gathered.

The builder came by on Tuesday to investigate the situation with the leak. After checking it out he had the owner come by the next day to give a second opinion. While they were on the roof they found a golf club that someone had somehow thrown up there.

We had 85 kids participate in SonRisers this Wednesday morning. As we were closing up the repair man for our security system came by and adjusted the motion detectors. That afternoon I distributed posters advertising this Saturday's "Old Man Brown" concert at the church. The Adult Disciples group finished their study of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe Wednesday night. We'll watch the movie together next Wednesday.

We got a note in the mail this week from a woman in a town nearby. She is a member of the denomination who had moved to the area and wanted us to transfer her membership to our congregation. We sent out a packet of information to her so she would be able to know the schedule.

Thoughts of the Peacemobile were in the air this week. At Bryce's school his teacher told the parents who had gathered for open house about her experiences with the Peacemobile at the Power House. Later that week at the Pigtown Festival a few different people who were visiting at our booth talked about how much they liked it. Everyone asked about doing it again.

Both the builders and the HVAC people came on Friday morning to make repairs. The HVAC people couldn't find anything wrong and the builder did repair work both inside and out. He told us not to repaint inside until after the next big rain storm to see if things had been sealed.

Friday night brought Pizza Church. We started the fall curriculum with the first group (studying the life of Moses) and the third group (studying the Gospel of Luke). The middle group will start their series next weekend.

The annual Pigtown Festival was on Saturday. Tamara, Jenn, and I staffed the church's booth.

That night was the concert at the church by the group Old Man Brown. We had a wall-shaking floor-vibrating good time. Several people brought friends and neighbors with them.

Looking ahead to next week we have our full schedule of activities. In addition, we will start painting the floor of the new part of the building after Evening Worship on Sunday. Next weekend a group of women will be attending a women's retreat at Deer Park campgrounds in Pennsylvania.

Along with the individuals and activities mentioned, please keep the following individuals in the forefront of your prayers:
