11/25/2006

It's been a busy week at the Power House in Baltimore, Maryland.

It started out with a call from Danny on Sunday. He was sick and unable to set up. I got to the church a little earlier than usual and Gary was waiting there. We got things taken care of but not to the usual standard. During the service we talked about having thankfulness in our hearts then opened the floor for people to share what they were thankful for.

At Kids' Church we made turkeys with things we're thankful for listed on its tail feathers. Apostle Len Young arrived at the church part way through that service and was able to visit a bit with those present.

We changed around our order of service for Evening Worship. During that time, Len shared about the development of the church in Russia while projecting on the wall pictures of people and events. Afterward, we had our annual dessert potluck.

Oftentimes on the Wednesday before a holiday we have a very small group at SonRisers. This Wednesday we had 75 kids, which was not too far below a normal load.

We had cancelled Adult Disciples that night due to the need for Thanksgiving preparations. I used that time to prepare two sets of fliers (the Petting Zoo/Bake Sale flier and the Christmas Eve flier) and get caught up some miscellaneous paperwork.

Tamara came over to our house for Thanksgiving dinner on Thursday. On my way back from helping her carry some of the leftovers from what she'd made, I ran into the Quicks who were walking home from their Thanksgiving celebrations. We were able to visit for a few minutes and compare dinners.

I headed out early Friday morning to Staples to get copies of some of our fliers made and to try to get some "Early Bird" sale items there. We had purchased enough through Staples over the summer that our reward coupon covered the entire cost of the copies.

That night brought Pizza Church. Some years on the Friday after Thanksgiving we have only a handful of kids come. This year we had one of our busiest nights this fall. We had several new kids and much of the group was extremely wound up so we didn't get as much accomplished as we had hoped.

Donald knocked on the door mid-day on Saturday. He was needing his boarding pass printed out for tomorrow's flight back to Graceland University. He'll be home again in a couple of weeks for Christmas break.

Saturday night brought our monthly Sundae Church. The kids were much more interested in visiting than eating. The topics of conversation were not what one might normally expect in church but they did provide insight into what goes on in the lives of the kids in the neighborhood.

Looking ahead to next week we'll be back to our full schedule of activities. In addition we'll be starting to put together the details of the Advent activities.

Along with the individuals and activities mentioned, please keep the following individuals in the forefront of your prayers:
