4/12/2008

It’s been a busy week at the Power House in Baltimore, Maryland.

Let me just give you a list of some of the things that happened this week in addition to or in conjunction with our regular weekly schedule:

-Earl shared a testimony of healing as a part of the message during Morning Worship.

-Members from Sargeant Street shared that Troy (who was active in church as a child) and his girlfriend had their baby overnight. Mother and baby are healthy and came home early in the week.

-Three of us worked unsuccessfully with one of our elderly members to try to stop him from being scammed by sending in money to claim his prize at a foreign lottery.

-We met with a woman and her family once she learned that abnormalities during her pregnancy caused the baby to not be viable.

-We had a couple of people who had missed communion during Morning Worship so we added communion at the last minute to Evening Worship.

-Gloria met with a couple for marriage preparation counseling on Monday.

-The Citizens of Pigtown met at the church on Tuesday for their monthly meeting.

-We held our Priesthood meeting on Tuesday. Our agenda ranged from updating the calendar to passionate discussions about issues at hand.

-You may have seen on national news the story about a Baltimore teacher being attacked by students, the students recording and posting the attack on the internet, and the non-responsiveness of the school administration. Follow-up attacks included a friend who teaches with Vonceil at Mervo High School.

-I met with an Episcopal seminary student this week who was interviewing several pastors on their approaches to pastoral care.

-After several unsuccessful attempts to balance the checkbook, I called in Vonceil and we worked on it for over an hour together. We still can’t find the error.

-For the first time in the nearly 10 years I’ve been here, the leaders of the core community service organizations in the area met together to talk about plans and strategies. We’ll be meeting next month to finalize some plans.

-With the weather warmer we were able to get out, walk around, and visit quite a few more people this week.

-While kids were waiting outside the church for Solid Rock Café on Saturday, we experience a sudden downpour. We ended up letting them in early (which we NEVER do).

Looking ahead to next week we’ll have our regular schedule of activities. In addition, I have some meetings in Missouri on Monday and Tuesday. Some people from the congregation will also be participating in the Healing Workshop that Ron Gillilan spearheads next weekend.

Along with the individuals and activities mentioned, please keep the following individuals in the forefront of your prayers:
