2/2/2008

It’s been a busy week at the Power House in Baltimore, Maryland.

It started out Sunday with Morning Worship. During that service we talked about how to be prepared for miracles. At Kids’ Church we learned about being generous. We had a small group for Evening Worship.

I got a call this week from the state of Maryland. Though we had filed all or our renewal paperwork on time (and an additional two times after the deadline) our tax exempt status had not been renewed. Our purchases have been taxable since October 1. They finally discovered that they had used our paperwork to renew other Community of Christ congregations in Maryland but not ours. They gave us tentative approval over the phone but are requiring paperwork beyond my capacity to make us fully legal again. I’ll be in contact with headquarters to see what needs to be done next.

Three police officers stopped by the church during SonRisers asking us to tell the kids not to litter between the church and school. (We already do that and we pick up trash off the streets after each SonRisers.) 89 kids participated in the activities.

We had a wind storm come through on Wednesday. It took part of the roof of the old section of the building with it. Danny is working on getting a contractor to fix it. I’ve lost count of how many times we’ve had this same problem since the place went up in 2000.

With the strong and cold winds we had just a couple of people for Adult Disciples. We suspended the scheduled lesson and instead discussed current events then had our prayer time together. Afterward I tried out our new video projector. I had been out earlier in the day to get the necessary cables and after playing around with it for a while was able to get it working.

Throughout the week I had several people inquire about the church. We got an inquiry through our web site, the first one since it went on line in 1998. The person didn’t live in the Baltimore area but I was able to point him to Community of Christ congregations in his area.

We were finally able to replace the church’s digital camera this week. Our old one was stolen a little over 3 years ago. The new ones at the time were incompatible with our old computers. Since I have a new laptop with a portable printer we were able to align technology. I got it this week as I was able to combine coupons, sales, and promotions at Staples and get it for less than half price.

Friday night brought Pizza Church. Since the youngest group is currently in a video curriculum they were the first group to use the projector for official business.

Looking ahead to next week we’ll have our regular schedule of activities. In addition, we have our “Big Game” party on Sunday evening. During the day on Saturday is our Mission Center Leadership Team meeting in Stafford, Virginia. That night is our monthly Solid Rock Café.

Along with the individuals and activities mentioned, please keep the following individuals in the forefront of your prayers:
