10/1/2005

It's been a busy week at the Power House in Baltimore, Maryland.

It started out Sunday with our three services. We celebrated Cricket's baptism and confirmation during Morning Worship. At kids' church we learned the story of the ten wise and ten foolish girls. We continued our review of the letters to the churches from the book of Revelation during Evening Worship.

Throughout the week we spent time preparing the building for the painting party. We did all the interior work that required a ladder so that we could speed progress at the party. We also made some trips to Home depot as we recognized the need for additional equipment.

115 kids participated in Wednesday's SonRisers activities. That evening after the Narcotics Anonymous meeting the Adult Disciples group finished their review of the Gospel of Matthew.

A couple of us were able to visit Theresa in the hospital at different times this week. With the extensive surgery she had in her fight with cancer she'll be there a while longer. She's looking good for someone who has had chemo therapy and radical surgery. She is in very good spirits and, according to the nurses, has been a real blessing to the hospital staff.

On Friday afternoon I met with the man who owns the company that's building the church. He inspected the property and we brought each other up to date on some items that needed coordination. The inspectors and the electrician have held up the progress a little bit the last couple of weeks but they're still planning to be done with the contracted portion of the work in about three weeks.

Friday night brought Pizza Church. We had good-sized groups at the first and last sessions with a smaller group of middle school kids. Among them were several kids who were new to Pizza Church and few others who we haven't seen for several months.

We painted from 8:30 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. Over the course of the day, about 17 different people worked at the painting. We emptied 28 cans of paint and primer and had 5 partially used cans. We were able to complete the interior of the main room and primed more than 2/3 of the one exterior wall that needed paint. The group also did some touch-up work in the current building. The Gillilans brought down the lunch that the Towson congregation provided for the painting crew. We still have some other areas that need to be painted but probably won't be able to do too much more, at least on the inside, until the contractor leaves.

The representative from Home Interiors dropped off our materials for our annual candle sale. This is the fourth year we've done this and people outside of the congregation have been asking about it in anticipation of it.

Looking ahead to next week we have our full schedule of activities. In addition, we have our monthly priesthood meeting this Monday evening and our monthly Solid Rock Cafe next Saturday evening.

Along with the individuals and activities mentioned as well as the continued progress on our building project, please keep the following persons in the forefront of your prayers:
