9/30/2007

It's been busy week at the Power House in Baltimore, Maryland.

It started out Sunday with our three services. Philippians 3:12-16 was the focus scripture for Morning Worship. Kids' Church brought a large group, a small staff, a complex craft, and glue everywhere. During Evening Worship people were sharing concerns about education in our community and proposed some ideas about using the church for GED classes.

That afternoon we had our first official young adult football party. Four people participated in it and seemed to have a really good time.

Nearly 90 kids participated in SonRisers on Wednesday morning. During the activities, Josh Brannon's mom came by. Josh was very active in the church when he was in middle school. She let me know that he had joined the army and is in basic training until November. That evening the Adult Disciples group continued its study of the book of Hebrews.

Throughout the week we worked on a mailing. We sent post cards to all the kids who are in grades 3-12 who had been to church since July reminding them of the activities available for their particular grades. We were able to be completely up to date with this by Thursday afternoon. As new kids come throughout the year we'll be able to send out a few cards each week for more immediate follow-up.

That same day I got a knock on the door. It was Tom and Thomas Iman. They used to be active in the church but had moved to Cumberland several years ago. They were on their way through so we were able to visit for a few minutes and catch up with what was happening in their family.
Friday night brought Pizza Church. We had a few kids show up as a result of the mailing. The behavior at the first two sessions was a little challenging and made worse by some younger kids who were outside banging on the doors throughout the evening. The senior high group was well focused on their study of the Gospel of Mark.

Looking ahead to next week we have our full schedule of activities. In addition, we have a priesthood meeting after Evening Worship on Sunday. The exercise group will resume meeting this Thursday evening and will begin meeting on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting next week. Next weekend I'll be attending meetings in New Jersey.

Along with the individuals and activities mentioned, please keep the following individuals in the forefront of your prayers:
