8/26/2006

It's been a busy week at the Power House in Baltimore, Maryland.

It started out Sunday with Morning Worship. We recognized those who made Bible School a success and then had a message about being empowered by God to do great things.

We had a few kids from Bible School join us at Kids' Church. We learned the story of David and Goliath then colored pictures that illustrate the story and made them into books.

When Heidi arrived at Evening Worship she had a large box of school supplies with her. A family from the Springfield congregation had given them to her to bring for our school supply distribution next Sunday.

We had two meetings going on at the church on Tuesday evening. In the back room the Village Center met with residents of Herkimer Street to discuss home improvement grants that are available to people on that block. In the front room we held our monthly priesthood meeting. The bulk of the meeting was used for firming up a very full fall calendar.

On Wednesday I stopped by the bank to make a deposit. While there I checked to see if our signature cards had been updated after last week's fiasco. Not surprisingly, there had been no change in the system. The staff was able to find our paperwork from last week and said they would try again.

That night the Adult Disciples group met before our regular meeting time to assemble our teacher care packages for the start of school. During class time we continued our study of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.

We helped Donald get his plane ticket back to Graceland University for the fall semester. It ended up being a last-minute purchase since he needed to have surgery on his arm but didn't know the exact date until recently. He had the surgery on Thursday and will fly to Kansas City on Sunday. He won't be able to play baseball for a whole year but will still be on the team.

Bryce, Onalee, and I took the care packages to the schools on Thursday morning. That night Troy, Bryce and I attended an Orioles baseball game. The boys had earned the trip to the game based on their attendance last year. As a bonus it was bobble-head night so we each received one for being among the first 25,000 fans to arrive.

As we were walking home a car that went past us hit on the brakes and the driver jumped out. It was a young adult who used to come to the church several years ago. He had just become a dad this week and he wanted to show me the pictures of his son.

Friday night brought the last pizza church on the summer schedule. Several kids who we hadn't seen in years came. We'll be going back to having three separate groups beginning next week.

We had our monthly Sundae Church on Saturday evening. We just had a couple of kids so we were able to have more individualized conversations.

Looking ahead to next week we have our full schedule of activities. We have a new banner that'll be installed in the front of the building. In addition we'll be distributing school supplies to kids on Sunday afternoon. SonRisers will resume on Wednesday morning.

Along with the individuals and activities mentioned, please keep the following individuals in the forefront of your prayers:
