8/12/2007

It's been several busy weeks at the Power House in Baltimore, Maryland.

With the amount of time and the number of noteworthy events since the last report let me give you a highlights list:

-We had three baptisms on Sunday, July 15. Charlene and Jackie were baptized during Morning Worship and Juwaun was baptized as a part of Kids' Church.

-We had a cake and presented a gift to Joshua as a part of Evening Worship that same night in celebration of his successful completion of trade school.

-I was on vacation for several weeks. While I was out Edith Gallaher, Earl Jamison, and David Anderson brought the messages at Morning Worship. Jenn, Rachel, and Tamara took the lead in the youth activities while Danny and Gloria presided over Morning Worship, Evening Worship, and Adult Disciples. Patricia took care of having the building ready for our two Narcotics Anonymous groups.

-We've had a great abundance of school supplies donated to the congregation. Members of the congregation shopped at our local Staples to get supplies to donate. The Towson Congregation provided us with some money that we took to some outlying stores during their sales. Other people in our mission center, especially some from the Washington, DC, Congregation dropped off several boxes of supplies. We even got three boxes full of supplies in the mail from people in Michigan. We're quite excited about being able to encourage, equip, and empower the kids in the neighborhood with these generous donations.

-John attended Spectacular at Graceland University. Reports are that he had a good experience and I'm anxious to catch up with him to hear what he has to say about his trip.

-During her last couple of weeks in Pigtown, Rachel completed several projects, including organizing all the donations of school supplies and creating a new display board we can use at the upcoming Pigtown Fest. She also did some serious cleaning at the church.

-We had a going away party for Rachel the last Sunday in July. Gloria organized the event which followed Evening Worship.

-Jenn did a lot of preparation and organization of our craft materials. This included getting everything ready for Bible School and the fall semester at Kids' Church. With all the school supplies on sale she also restocked supplies of markers, crayons, glue, and the like.

-I was able to spend Thursday - Saturday of this week at the annual Willow Creek Leadership Summit. This was the eighth time I've been able to participate and it just gets better each year.

-I ran into Donald this week. I hadn't seen him since he'd gotten home from Graceland this spring. He originally planned to transfer to Towson University this fall but, at least as of now, will be returning to Graceland instead.

-Susanne called from Maine Friday night to let me know that significantly fewer people would be coming to lead Bible School for us next week. We've been making adjustments to our plans to make sure everything is covered.

Looking ahead to next week we have our full schedule of activities. In addition, we'll be marketing and making final plans for Bible School on Monday. The kids will come to Bible School Tuesday - Friday from 10 a.m. until noon.
