5/6/2006

It's been a busy week at the Power House in Baltimore, Maryland.

It started out Sunday with Morning Worship. During the service we applied Jesus' instructions given in Matthew 7:24-29 to our lives today.

At Kids' Church we learned about Jesus appearing to his disciples. The craft we had was complex and Jenn wasn't there to lead us through it so I was a bit worried. We all lived to tell about it and the crafts actually turned out quite nice.

We turned the church around for Evening Worship. We had been getting quite a bit of glare from the sun on the wall where we normally project the words to our songs. We tried turning the chairs around to face the back wall to avoid the glare. It wasn't perfect but it was better than before.

I got a call from Gloria on Tuesday. She had made connections with a local band that was looking to give back to the community by offering free concerts in different neighborhoods. They are a blues band but do gospel style songs when they play at churches. I checked out their web page and listed to samples of their music. They were really good so we're looking at getting them to come and play a community concert at the church sometime this fall.

About 85 kids participated in Wednesday's SonRisers activities. That evening the Adult Disciples group continued their study of pastoral portions of the Doctrine and Covenants.

After Men's Group on Thursday Josh and I went to Friendly's for ice cream sundaes. He had earned the trip by coming to church 40 times in the past 12 months. This will be his last earned trip this way as he'll be graduating from high school in about a month. We've been talking with him quite lately a bit about joining the Young Adult CORE Group once he graduates and he mentioned in our conversations his willingness to take his turn cooking meals for that group.

Gloria took off for Florida on Friday. Darlene, a former member of the congregation, was graduating with her Masters Degree so Gloria went down to celebrate with her.

Friday night brought Pizza Church. We had small groups throughout the evening. They all seemed to relax and enjoy each other's company.

On Saturday Jenn, Bryce, and I attended the Mission Center Conference in Springfield, Virginia. That evening I set up an appointment to meet with Damon's dad tomorrow to discuss Damon's desire to be baptized.

Looking ahead to next week we have our regular schedule of activities. In addition we have our monthly Solid Rock Cafe on Saturday evening. I'll also be meeting with the builder on Monday to investigate a small leak around the back door of the building.

Along with the individuals and activities mentioned, please keep the following families in the forefront of your prayers:

the Hayes family
the Lydick family
the Gray family
the Caruso family
the Wagner family
the Parker family
the Smallwood family
the Shanklin family

Thank you for your continued prayer support.
