2/25/2006

It's been a busy week at the Power House in Baltimore, Maryland.

It started out Sunday with Morning Worship. We talked about serving together as a part of our 40 Days of Community campaign. Patricia was especially happy as a friend she'd been praying for and inviting to church had finally come with her to the service.

At Kids' Church the group had to work together to unscramble the memory verse for the week. Afterward they worked together to color in this week's poster.

Vonceil was out of town for the weekend so Bryce sat with me and Onalee sat with friends throughout the services. By the second half of Evening Worship, however, she needed to be on my lap. Fortunately, we were seated in our prayer groups at the time so we were able to accommodate her need.

On Monday my kids and I went to Ikea to get some supplies for the church. We were able to get a better stand for our PA system as well as the other things we were looking for.

On Tuesday the local elementary school called. It seems they gave me an incomplete list of classrooms in their school. I needed to add six more groups for Peacemobile tours. Considering that we were only hosting about three groups a day, this was a serious problem. We rearranged the schedule with groups starting earlier in the morning and going later in the afternoon and wedged them in. We're in serious need of additional volunteers so if anyone out there is interested or available please contact me ASAP.

Tuesday night brought our Priesthood Meeting. Among the topics were calendar considerations from now through August, camp plans, Easter activities, the Peacemobile, and programmatic changes for fall.

Wednesday morning brought out 59 kids for SonRisers. Afterward, I visited the school to review with them the amended schedule for the Peacemobile. That night after the Narcotics Anonymous meeting, the Adult Disciples group looked at opportunities to serve within the congregation.

We got our February power bill this week. For the first times since moving into the building the bill was for less than $1000. It, along with last month, was an estimated bill based on earlier readings. I got a note from the power company later in the week saying that they were unable to read the meter because they couldn't get access to the building. This is strange since the meter is just off our parking lot on the exterior of the building. We'll call next week to see if we can't get this straightened out.

I spent some time on Friday morning at Staples making copies for the Peacemobile activities and then assembling those copies into packets for the teachers. Afterward I dropped them off at the Catholic school and the neighborhood elementary school.

While we were setting up for Pizza Church on Friday some of the people working to rehab the house next door came by. They were waiting for their ride and wondered if they could wait inside where it was warm until he arrived. The kids were pretty wound up at the sessions this night.

We also had a couple of kids come by who hadn't been in church since early fall. One of them let us know that she's pregnant and due on July 25. That means she'll have the baby about a month before she turns 15. We made sure she was seeing the doctor, offered help, and talked about the need for a sacramental blessing for the baby once it is born.

On Saturday evening I assembled the new PA system stand we got on Monday. After that we had Sundae Church. This time it was only guys who came.

Looking ahead to next week we have our full schedule of activities. This is the last week in our 40 Days of Purpose campaign. In addition, we'll be making final arrangements for the arrival of the Peacemobile. They'll get here on Saturday afternoon at which time we'll get the trailer unloaded and into the church.

Along with the individuals and activities mentioned, please keep the following individuals in the forefront of your prayers:

Tammy
Markia
