10/30/2005

It's been a busy couple of weeks at the Power House in Baltimore, Maryland.

Lots of things have happened. Here are a few of the highlights.

Bob and Diane Kyser were in the area last weekend. They taught classes at a mission center leadership retreat which Gloria and I were able to attend. They came through the neighborhood on their way into town on Friday then spent Sunday afternoon and evening providing ministry at Kids' Church and Evening Worship.

Theresa was back in church last Sunday morning. She had been in the hospital for several weeks in her fight against cancer. She was pretty frail but very glad to be back.

We've had 100+ kids at SonRisers the last two weeks. This past Wednesday we ran out of donuts. Fortunately, it was just a couple minutes before our scheduled closing time.

The builders continued to make progress on the building. We now have electricity throughout the building and should have heat early next week. They're pretty much down to detail work and waiting on subcontractors and inspectors.

This Friday's Pizza Church was one for the memory books. We had some of the best lessons we've had this fall and good participation throughout the evening. We also had a lot of kids who came by but didn't participate inside and, instead, stood outside making lots of noise. It was bad enough that some of the neighbors called the police. To top things off, a neighbor got home from a successful deer hunt and hung the deer on his back porch. One kid got hold of part of a leg and took it around trying to scare people with it.

We've continued with our chair sale. At this writing, 46 of the 100 have been purchased or pledged for purchase. We're hoping to get the bulk of the rest taken care of in the next couple of weeks.

The builders weren't the only ones busy working on the building. For the past five years we've been using one of the bathrooms as a storage room. In preparation for the move to the addition, Danny and I spent Thursday evening clearing everything out of the room and cleaning it. On Saturday, Tamara, Jenn, and I spent the day painting that room, the lobby, and touching up the other bathroom.

We had Sundae Church this Saturday night. It would normally have been a week earlier (the 4th Saturday of the month) but none of the staff could be there. Fortunately, this month had 5 Saturdays so we could adjust the calendar without conflicting with another activity.

Looking ahead to next week we have our full schedule of activities. In addition we'll be at the church on Monday night for Trick-Or-Treating. We'll also try to get some finishing touches done with the painting and do some repairs on the new bathroom to get it in working condition. Gloria will be officiating at a wedding this Friday evening.

Along with the individuals and activities mentioned as well as the continued progress on our building project, please keep the following persons in the forefront of your prayers:
