It's been a busy week at the Power House in Baltimore, Maryland.
It started out Sunday with our three services and our beginning of the Advent season. During Morning Worship we had a message on Joy. The group at Kids' Church made Christmas cards for people. At Evening Worship we talked about being able to see Jesus in others.
Donald was home for the Thanksgiving break. He ended up not having a ride from the airport in Kansas City back to Lamoni. We made some calls and Kris Judd came to the rescue in Kansas City by finding someone who was going that way and coordinating travel.
I left Monday to spend most of the week at meetings in Massachusetts. I returned Thursday afternoon.
108 kids participated in Wednesday's SonRisers activities. That evening Jenn taught the Adult Disciples group, which focused on the book of Romans.
We spent time in preparing for next weekend's Grand Opening celebrations. People cut the copies we made last week into postcard sized fliers for distribution next week. They also continued preparation of the building, including painting the steps. The contractors came by and installed the last piece of gutters that we'd been waiting on.
On Friday the security/fire alarm company came by to begin installing the system. They were there from about 9:30 in the morning until well after 6:00 p.m. but still had quite a bit of work to do. I'm not sure which day(s) next week they'll be back.
That evening brought Pizza Church. The kids in the first two sessions studied the story of Jesus' birth as recorded in Luke. The senior high kids continued their study of the Gospel of Matthew. One kid asked if he could be baptized at the Christmas Eve service this year. We sent him home to check with his mother afterward and hope to hear back from him on this soon.
On Saturday afternoon I bought the sound system for the new building. We negotiated a good price several weeks ago from a nearby retailer. Needing a microphone at services will take some getting used to.
Troy had crossed over 40 camp credits a couple weeks ago so he, Jenn, and I went to Friendly's to celebrate with ice cream sundaes on Saturday evening. This was a real highlight for him and he knew exactly what he was ordering before we got in the van to go.
Looking ahead to next week we have our full schedule of activities. In addition, we'll be moving into the new building. On Monday and Tuesday we'll make a final clean sweep of the new place cleaning out things we've let accumulate there, mopping the floor, and finishing the last of the essential painting. After our activities on Wednesday, which includes our business meeting in place of our Adult Disciples class, we'll begin transferring equipment and furniture to their new locations. By Friday night we'll be ready to open with Pizza Church in the new building. Of course, we'll be distributing fliers throughout the week. Saturday is our community Open House from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. and a "Super Sized" Solid Rock Cafe in the evening. We'll have that Sunday's services in the new place as well.
