It’s been a busy week at the Power House in Baltimore, Maryland.
It started out Sunday with Morning Worship. Two first time visitors came to the church: one who found us through our ads on Google and one who we know through Wednesday’s NA Meeting. As this was the first week of Advent our topic for the day was Joy. Bryce and Onalee were responsible for the Advent reading and candle lighting.
After the service Kathy, Josh, and I made some preparations for next Sunday’s baptism service. Kathy hadn’t done a baptism in our font before so I gave her some pointers. Then she and Josh did a literal “dry run” of what would happen.
As we were locking up after the service Robert and I noticed that the fire extinguisher that is next to the door was missing. We don’t know exactly when it walked away and could have been gone for a while without anyone noticing. We’re trying to think of a more secure way to keep one as we replace it, but it’s not exactly something we can chain to the wall.
We started teaching the Christmas story at Kids’ Church that afternoon. This year we seem to have more kids than usual who know nothing about the story of Jesus’ birth. As a craft we had a sticker puzzle that resulted in a nativity scene.
Bill Pennington came that evening to represent the Mission Center at our annual business meeting. We elected officers and approved the budget for 2010.
When we were opening the church on Wednesday morning I noticed a message on the answering machine. From it we learned of a third person who wanted to be baptized next Sunday. We made contact after SonRisers to solidify the plans.
91 kids participated in Wednesday’s SonRisers activities. Later that day we received the promotional materials that we’d ordered for Christmas Eve. They came just in time to include in our Kids’ Church Newsletter mailing that went out that afternoon.
Pouring rain greeted us Wednesday evening. In part because of it both the NA meeting and the Mid-Week Service were sparsely attended.
On Thursday Earl dropped off a Yamaha keyboard at the church. He brought it from Charlotte for us to use this weekend for Sunday night’s Arundel Singers Christmas Concert.
Friday night brought Pizza Church. The first two groups studied portions of Luke 1 and 2 while the third group continued its review of the Gospel of Matthew. My dad joined us for sessions 2 and 3.
Danny came over to the church on Saturday evening and he and I set up the font for Sunday’s baptism. After he left I tested the keyboard and saw what tools I needed to bring from home in order to attach the legs to it.
Looking ahead to next week we have our full schedule of activities. In addition we three baptisms scheduled for Morning Worship. Sunday night at 6:00 is the Christmas Concert with the Arundel Singers. I’ve got some extra meetings this week and throughout the week we’ll be working on our Christmas Eve mailing list.
