3/28/2009

It’s been a busy week at the Power House in Baltimore, Maryland.

We had a good sized group gather for Morning Worship. During the service we finished our series on the Beatitudes. Afterward we helped Gary get a couple of items he’s stored at the church to his new residence.

The Kids’ Church group took turns sharing things that they knew God wanted them to do but that they found easy to forget. Afterward we made door hangers to help us remember to do these things.

The mother of one of the second graders asked us about information for camp. She was looking forward to her daughter going in the summer of 2010. She wanted to know if it would be possible for her to do work at the camp that year, too.

People at Evening Worship seemed glad to both share stories and pray together. Afterward I connected with Marjorie to help a member get some non-emergency medical attention. She’s assigning a nursing student to visit the member in her home.

We learned this week that we now have a second sponsor for sending kids to IYF and Spectacular this summer. That puts us at 50% of our goal.

As is typical this time of year, a few more kids came to SonRisers this Wednesday. We’ll see if the trend continues through the next few months.

We had an 8:00 a.m. service call scheduled with the alarm company to get our system repaired. I learned at 9:15 that they wouldn’t be keeping their appointment and rescheduled it for next Wednesday.

I misread which portion of the New Testament we were to study this week at Adult Disciples and prepared the wrong lesson. However, people came in with some concerns happening on their street that the “wrong” lesson addressed directly. Afterward, Gloria and I updated each other on some sensitive issues that we’re working on addressing in the lives of some of the members.

We got a letter of warning from the police this week. They noted that they had dispatched police to the church because of the alarm incident a couple of weeks ago and that if they are dispatched again we will be charged a fee. We will have to contest this since the no police came to the building that morning to make sure that we weren’t being robbed.

We spent some time this week working on our Easter mailing. It won’t go in the mail for another week but we needed to get a jump start on it as next week has several additional activities in it.

Friday night brought Pizza Church. Part of the learning discussion over the passage we read at the first session was to clarify confusion regarding the difference between an ox and an ax. We had the biggest group we’ve had in a while for the Middle School group. At the third session we learned about the Sacrament of Administration then anointed and prayed for one of the kids who was there.

Early Saturday morning Jenn and I headed down to Springfield, Virginia. I had a meeting with Len Young and Dave Anderson at 8:00 which was followed by the Mission Center Leadership Team meeting.

Meanwhile, back in the neighborhood, Vonceil, Bryce, Onalee, Tamara, and Violet did some spring cleaning at the church. They polished the wood, cleaned behind the furniture, and did a variety of other things to polish up the place.

We had some good ice cream at Sundae Church on Saturday evening. One of our senior high kids is lactose intolerant so we had Oreos available as well.

Looking ahead to next week we have our regular schedule of activities. In addition, we’ve got several baby blessings scheduled for Morning Worship. Wednesday has a few extra activities, including getting the alarm repaired, having the sound system checked, and hosting a meeting of the neighborhood walkability map committee. On Thursday Diggs-Johnson Middle School is using the building as a part of its community involvement training. That night is our monthly priesthood meeting. On Saturday the building is being used for a wedding.
