It’s been a busy week at the Power House in Baltimore, Maryland.
It started out Sunday with Morning Worship. We knew in advance that several of adults who normally attend service would not be there. However, a bunch of young kids came for the service that morning. In the end, nearly half of those gathered for worship were age 17 and under. The topic for the morning was Hope amid Failure.
We divided the kids into two groups for the craft at Kids’ Church. The older kids assembled pre-cut pieces of wood to make a “Lamb of God” ornament while the younger kids colored a picture of sheep in a pasture then glued cotton balls on for the sheep’s wool.
As a part of Evening Worship we celebrated Theresa’s graduation from Job Corps. While she was there, she completed her GED and was given training in two different job skills. She won several awards for her studies, including Student of the Year. We had a cake to share together in celebration. Theresa brought some additional desserts for the celebration, too.
Charlie, an elderly man who regularly participates in Morning Worship, hadn’t been to church in a couple of weeks. Gloria spent some time this week trying to track him down. She learned that he had been taken to a hospital but not which one. She called several local hospitals but was unsuccessful in finding him until after he returned home.
65 kids participated in Wednesday’s SonRisers activities. We took some of the leftover donuts to the Elementary school and were greeted by the secretary with clapping and cheering. Tayvia and I were the only ones who were at Adult Disciples that evening.
Several evenings this week featured weather that was nearly perfect so many people were outside sitting on their steps. I was able to get out and visit lots of folks as they enjoyed the evening.
Friday night brought Pizza Church. We had only a handful of kids throughout the evening.
I was able to get two more camp forms signed on Saturday. So far we have 17 kids registered for camp this summer. This is the smallest group of kids we’ve been able to send to camp in 10 years.
Our monthly Sundae Church was on Saturday evening. Only one kid came so we were able to talk about some personal things that would not have come up if others had been there.
Looking ahead to next week we have our regular schedule of activities. In addition, I have a wedding Sunday night. Tamara will be attending a conference on Sunday and Monday. I’m meeting with the children’s activities directors from Paul’s Place on Thursday. We’ve also got a few more Orioles tickets to use this week before they expire.
