8/23/2009

It’s been a busy month at the Power House in Baltimore, Maryland.

It started out Sunday with a small gathering for morning worship. This was expected as Tamara and Jenn were out of town at a wedding, Damon and Crystal were at the beach retreat, and Gloria was in the hospital. A few others were having end of summer gatherings with family. This made quite a dent in the number of people present.

At Kids’ Church we continued with our study of Ephesians 6:14-17. We made large paper hats and decorated them with things to help us remember Jesus.

As we started Evening Worship Theresa and Yvette came in. Yvette was carrying her new baby. He was born 6 weeks early on August 1 and had just gotten out of the hospital earlier that day. There were just a couple of us there so we pulled the chairs in a circle and I got to hold Jamel for much of the service.

Just as the service was ending, Tamara and Jenn pulled up. They were able to come in and meet and hold the baby, too.

That night we sent out our mailing to follow-up from Bible School. We sent each of the families letters thanking them for letting their kids participate in Bible School and inviting them to participate in upcoming events and activities. We also sent post cards about Pizza Church to the older kids who were at Bible School as well.

Throughout the week we spent a lot of time getting some of the activities ready for the fall. We planned crafts for each Kids’ Church lesson for September – December then ordered the supplies needed for them. We spent some time working out the details for this fall’s use of the building by the University of Maryland’s nursing program. We also put together the first Kids’ Church Parents Newsletter for fall.

More than at any other time, I’ve had kids and parents ask me throughout the week about our school supply drive. Our donations of supplies continue to come in but at a slower pace than the last couple of years. Hopefully this week will prove fruitful in donations.

Earl and I met together on Thursday. We talked about some things we’d been trying out during Morning Worship and how refine them and proceed with them into the future.

Gloria got home from the hospital on Thursday. She’s be in recovery for a while but was doing much better than the last time I saw her in the hospital.

Friday night brought Pizza Church. One girl who we met at Bible School and her mom came by for the first session. The mom said that her daughter loves it at the church and begs her to come. She’s planning on bringing her to Kids’ Church, too.

We had our monthly Sundae Church on Saturday evening. The regular crowd of high school students was there.

As I was getting ready to come home late Saturday night I noticed that there was a loud noise coming from the back room. Upon investigation I discovered that the HVAC was the source of this noise even though it was turned off. I tried switching things on and off but nothing helped.

Looking ahead to next week we have our regular schedule of activities. In addition, the nursing students will begin their use of the building on Wednesday morning. That evening we’ll be making our annual teacher care packages for the local elementary and middle schools. We’ll also be preparing for our school supply distribution which is scheduled for August 30. It also looks like we’ll be trying to schedule a repair for our HVAC sometime this week, too.

Along with the individuals and activities mentioned, please keep the following families in the forefront of your prayers:

The Whittington Family
The Caldwell Family
The Pearson Family
The Hall Family
The Pelsinski Family
The Mills Family
The Featherstone Family
The Gerie Family

Thank you for your continued prayer support.
