10/11/2009

It’s been a busy week at the Power House in Baltimore, Maryland.

It’s been a busy week at the Power House in Baltimore, Maryland. It started Sunday when Dondewan came into the church looking for Davon. He said that the house next door to Davon (meaning a house attached to it) had burned down on Saturday. Davon’s house had sustained damage and the Red Cross had taken them away but Dondewan was worried about them. This was all news to me.

Later on a good group gathered for Morning Worship. We shared in communion together as a part of the service. Luke 3:1-18 was our scripture focus for the morning. We had prayer for several people afterward.

We learned about life of Joseph at Kids’ Church that afternoon. During our craft time we used graham crackers and frosting to review the life of Joseph.

Sunday night was our final Evening Worship. It’s been going on for about 14 years. Instead of this weekly service we’re having a Celebration Service once a month.

Afterward we finished up a postcard mailing about the next Sunday’s Homecoming celebration. We put it in Tuesday’s mail.

We got our copy of the Herald this week. We were pleased to find the article that Tamara wrote about this summer’s Bible School in it.

Over 80 kids participated in Wednesday’s SonRisers activities. As that activity was winding down the furnace repair man came in and got to work. Once he was finished the nursing students came in for their class. During that time I was interviewed by a nursing student from a different group. That night we had a small gathering for the Mid-Week service.

In between activities on Wednesday we worked on our latest mailing to middle school and high school students. This set was to those kids whose first visit to the church this year happened during the last four weeks. I also had been given several Homecoming postcards that members of the congregation had addressed to their friends so I got them stamped and in the mail that day, too.

We still hadn’t had contact with Davon by Thursday so I went over to the school to see if they had any information they could share. They didn’t and were hoping we knew something.

Friday night brought Pizza Church. We had above average sized groups throughout the evening. We also had some rough behavior in each session. It left us more drained than usual by the end of the activities.

The good news that night was that Davon came by. His family was all doing OK and his mom was looking at a nearby house this weekend to see if they could rent it.

As the week drew to a close we put some extra effort in preparation for Homecoming. Earl ordered a cake, Tamara took over responsibilities for making sure things are presented well, Danny took the shopping list for things needed fresh on Sunday morning (like donuts and coffee), and my family ended up in a few different stores getting other necessities. We also made contact with several friends of the church through Facebook and invited their participation this weekend as well.

Saturday brought our monthly Solid Rock Café. Like Friday night’s Pizza Church sessions, it was quite a bit edgier that we’ve experienced lately.

Looking ahead to next week we have our full schedule of activities. In addition, Sunday is our Homecoming celebration. We’ll have breakfast at the church at 10:15 a.m., Morning Worship at 11:00 a.m., and lunch at noon. I also have one lunch meeting and one breakfast meeting this week.

Along with the individuals and activities mentioned, please keep the following families in the forefront of your prayers:

The Gary Family
The Brown Family
The Hodge Family
The Richardson Family
The Mayes Family
The Lester Family
The Johnson Family
The Holt Family

Thank you for your continued prayer support.
