It’s been a busy week at the Power House in Baltimore, Maryland.
It started with worship on Sunday Morning. During the service, we finished up the “If You” series we’d been working on through September. We were also able to line up health care visits from the nursing students to another family in the neighborhood.
At Kids’ Church we learned about God’s promises to Abraham. Afterward we strung colored stars to make necklaces.
We had a small group gather for Sunday evening. We only have one more week of this service in this format.
91 kids participated in Wednesday’s SonRisers activities. A couple of people who hadn’t yet been to Mid-Week joined us on Wednesday evening.
The nursing students all received their interview assignment this week. They are to each interview a community leader to get some additional perspectives on the needs of the neighborhood. Gloria was interviewed on Thursday and they are interviewing me next week.
Throughout the week we worked on a couple of mailings. The October edition “Kids’ Church News” went out to parents in Wednesday’s mail. The postcards for next Sunday’s Homecoming activities are almost all ready to go out in next week’s mail.
We also had a lot of contact with folks on Facebook. In the past month it’s been a great resource in connecting with people we haven’t seen in a long time, especially young adults who came to church here when they were teenagers.
Friday night brought Pizza Church. All three sessions were well attended. Between the first and second session Sarah asked, “What ever happened to JJ?” He had been active for a while last year then disappeared without a trace. Five minutes later JJ walked in the door. When he opened the Bible he said, “What ever happened to those wise men we were talking about last time I was here?”
On Saturday I spent the day at the Mission Center activities in Chester, Virginia. We had good lessons and practice in the discipline of discernment.
Looking ahead to next week we have our full schedule of activities. This Sunday night is our last Evening Worship in its current format. In addition, we’ll finish and send out our postcards and work on other invitations for next Sunday’s Homecoming. The church’s furnace is scheduled for repair on Wednesday. That’s the same time that I’ll be being interviewed by some nursing students. Saturday is our monthly Solid Rock Café.
