10/12/2008

It’s been a busy couple of weeks at the Power House in Baltimore, Maryland.

It started out Sunday, September 28. Before Morning Worship, Ron Gillilan met up with a church member from another congregation to provide an Evangelists Blessing. They joined the congregation for Morning Worship where the topic of the message was on tithing.

One person who had come to the Night Clinic came for Morning Worship. Ron and I anointed him and offered prayers of healing after the service.

During Kids’ Church we continued learning about Moses. The topic for our time together that day was the plagues in Egypt.

We had a small group gather for evening worship. Afterward while I was cleaning up some people came by looking for the Night Clinic. They were disappointed to be a week late.

95 kids participated in Wednesday’s SonRisers activities. One of the nursing students came to be a part of the staffing for the morning.

At noon on Wednesday several new moms and caregivers of infants gathered for the New Moms’ Group. Sue, one of the graduate nursing students from the University of Maryland, led the group through infant CPR classes. They also had pizza together and talked about the baby care questions they had.

We had our biggest group yet for Family Bowling that night. Nearly 60 people participated in the activity. Of them, 25 were at bowling for the first time, and of that 25, 15 were at the church for the first time.

On Friday afternoon Gloria took me to the airport to fly to Kansas City. I was there for the Peace Colloquy and for field staff meetings. I got home after midnight on Wednesday.

While I was out Tamara was in charge of Pizza Church. Earl presided over Morning Worship while Danny and Gloria shared testimonies as a part of the service. Tamara and Vonceil ran Kids’ Church and Danny was in charge of Evening Worship. 85 kids came to SonRisers and there were around 45 people at Family Bowling Night.

After this Thursday’s NA meeting we had a rehearsal for Robert and Ebony’s wedding. Not everyone in the wedding party could be there but we had enough present to cover the basics.

Friday night brought Pizza Church. We had good groups throughout the evening. This was due, in part, to several kids needing to provide paragraphs about what was wrong in their behavior when Tamara was in charge the previous week. During one group we had to clarify the difference between Nicodemus and Nostradamus. After Pizza Church, Robert and his friends arrived to set up the church for his wedding.

Robert and Ebony’s wedding was on Saturday afternoon at the church. As we were closing up the church and heading over to the reception, Jenn overheard some of our neighbor kids who were playing in front of the church. One said, “I didn’t know they could do weddings here.” The other replied, “I hear that churches are the best places to have weddings.”

That evening brought our monthly Solid Rock Café. We had fewer than a dozen kids come. But, of those that did, three were at the church for the first time and another two were kids we hadn’t seen at church in over a year.

Looking ahead to next week we have our full schedule of activities. In addition, we have a baby blessing scheduled for Evening Worship on Sunday. The Citizens of Pigtown will have their monthly meeting at the church on Tuesday evening. We’ll have a priesthood meeting on Thursday. Next Friday Tony and Charmaine Chvala-Smith will arrive in town. They’re here to lead some training in Springfield on Saturday but will spend some time with us on Friday and on Sunday afternoon and evening.
