10/26/2008

It’s been a busy week at the Power House in Baltimore, Maryland.

It started out Sunday with Morning Worship. The topic for the message was on honesty. We had a couple of new visitors and a couple of people who returned to the service after having visited for the first time a few weeks ago.

Near half time for the Ravens Game, Tony and Charmaine Chvala-Smith arrived having spent the morning at the Dundalk Congregation. They participated in Kids’ Church during which the kids learned the story of Joshua and Caleb.

Vonceil had been working on a project to upgrade our presentation of songs at Evening Worship. During the service that night we did a test drive of the new technology. We had an unusually large crowd for the service. Tony and Charmaine shared some stories of what God’s doing in some of the places they’ve visited.

From there we had a potluck dinner. Several people who had never been to the church before came in and joined in the potluck. Afterward, Tony, Charmaine, Tamara, Jenn, and I visited at the church for a while.

We had just under 100 kids participate in Wednesday’s SonRisers activities. This despite the troubles we’re currently having with the elementary school and, therefore, noticeably fewer elementary aged kids.

Lunch time that day was busy at the church. Sue hosted the New Moms Group in the front room while, in the back, a group of middle school students working on a community development project ate lunch and interviewed local community leaders.

That night we had a smaller group of people show up for bowling. The teams that did come were able to bowl more rounds than usual and were quite happy to do so.

On Thursday morning I met with a man who wanted to go through our Footings classes. We had a good discussion for the first lesson and will continue with lesson two next week.

I stopped by the middle school on Thursday to visit with the principal. She gave us permission to use the school’s parking lot for people driving to the upcoming Mission Center Conference that we’ll be hosting.

Thursday’s NA group went quite a bit overtime this week. They were having a celebration for the 9th anniversary of one of the women who leads the group.

Friday night brought Pizza Church. We had a small group for the first session, then an unusually large group during the middle school session. Only one kid participated in the third group. Many of the kids that participated throughout the evening are new to the church this year.

We had our monthly Sundae Church on Saturday evening. With only one senior high kid coming to Pizza Church on Friday and rainy weather on Saturday we didn’t expect too many kids to come. We were right but had a good visit with the one kid who came.

Looking ahead to next week we have our full schedule of activities. In addition, we’ll paint half the floor of the building after Evening Worship on Sunday. (We’ll paint the other half of the floor next Sunday.) Friday is Halloween so we’ll be passing out treats and will adjust the Pizza Church activities accordingly.
