10/31/2009

It’s been a busy week at the Power House in Baltimore, Maryland.

It started out with a good sized group of people gathered for Morning Worship. This included some of the folks from the Towson Congregation. Also, Darlene was in town visiting from Florida. We started a series on John the Baptist.

During Kids’ Church we learned more about Moses at Mount Sinai and the story of the Ten Commandments. The kids then made a sticker page depicting the story.

That night Tamara and I took two kids to Friendly’s for ice cream. They had earned the trip there by coming to church 40+ times since July.

97 kids participated in Wednesday’s SonRisers activities. We haven’t broken the 100 mark since the elementary school principal told the kids at her school that they could not come but we’re getting closer.

Later that day we put together the monthly Kids’ Church newsletter to be mailed on Saturday. We met the new leader of the NA group that afternoon. Gloria and I were the only ones at Wednesday night’s Mid-Week Service.

Sarah picked up a couple of our high school students on Friday afternoon for a trip to the Hampton, Virginia, area. Our Mission Center Conference was being held there this weekend in conjunction with that congregation’s celebration of having paid off their mortgage. As a part of the festivities they were installing a peace pole that kids from throughout the mission center had helped make.

Friday night brought Pizza Church. Since they had Halloween parties at school earlier in the day we expected the kids to be a bit wound up. We were correct in our expectations but they settled down fairly well.

Between sessions a couple from the neighborhood came by. They were looking to schedule their wedding. We were able to talk the next day and schedule the wedding for

We set up for Halloween on Saturday afternoon. One table was set up with toothbrushes and one with toothpaste that we had received from the University of Maryland School of Dentistry. We had a plate that we kept full of cookies that we’d received from the Towson Congregation. And, of course, we had two large containers of candy that we’d purchased to hand out to kids.

The weather was warm so we were comfortable with the door propped open for trick-or-treaters. Kids started coming around 4:30 and were pretty much finished by 7:45. Kids and Parents alike were especially thrilled with the toothbrushes and toothpaste. Through this activity we were able to reconnect with some kids we hadn’t seen in a long time, including several who we hadn’t seen since Bible School.

Also during this time we learned that Theresa had her baby. Mom and baby are both doing fine and are planning on being released from the hospital on Sunday. Theresa has already planned on having the baby’s blessing during the Christmas Eve service.

Finally, as of tonight the Facebook page “The Power House Community of Christ” has 299 fans. If you’re not a fan yet, sign on and see if you can be number 300!

Looking ahead to next week we have our full schedule of activities. I’m going to be on a retreat for part of the week so others will be taking on some of my jobs along with their own responsibilities.

Along with the individuals and activities mentioned, please keep the following families in the forefront of your prayers:
