It’s been a busy week at the Power House in Baltimore, Maryland.
It started out with the sacrament of the Lords Supper at Morning Worship. Theresa was at the service. She was home on break from her training at Job Corps. She’s moved through the curriculum faster than the others so she’ll have completed the work for two different trades instead of one when she graduates. She was also honored as the student of the month.
A larger group of young adults gathered for the football game as the Ravens were in the playoffs. They were quiet pleased with the victory.
At Kids’ Church we talked about looking to the new year. The kids made crafts that involved setting goals for the year.
We had a very small group at Evening Worship. The bitter cold weather kept most people away. Afterward, I had a meeting via a conference call.
Pouring rain and near freezing temperatures put slowed the flow of students at Wednesday’s SonRisers activities. Fewer than fifty kids came through.
That evening at Adult Disciples we launched a new curriculum for the year. We’ll be reading through the entire New Testament together this year and each week’s lessons will correspond with the weekly readings.
We had some preparation and marketing activities throughout the week. With Family Bowling starting up next week we prepared fliers and posters. We also worked on some curriculum development for our youth activities.
On Thursday evening we had our priesthood meeting. Some of the main topics included refining our policies for community use of the building, planning for the “Big Game” party on February 1, and brainstorming about some activities developing for later in the spring.
Friday night brought Pizza Church. During one of the sessions, a kid asked if I’d read the WHOLE Bible. He was quite surprised that I indeed had read it several times. The kid sitting next to him noted how old I was, therefore allowing lots of time in my life to do such a thing.
I caught the 3:55 a.m. train to New York City on Saturday morning. I spent the day in Manhattan at a “Preaching for Life Change” conference cosponsored by the American Bible Society, Greater New York Church Leadership, and Saddleback Church. The event was utterly amazing and totally practical. I got back into town around midnight.
That same evening was our monthly Solid Rock Café. I haven’t heard any information from Jenn, Tamara, or Sarah about it. I’m taking the “no news is good news” approach and hoping that I won’t hear of any major problem.
Looking ahead to next week we have our regular schedule of activities. Tamara will bring the message this Sunday during Morning Worship. On Tuesday, Citizens of Pigtown will have their monthly meeting at the building. Thursday will bring the return of Family Bowling Nights, now monthly instead of weekly.
