It's been a busy week at the Power House in Baltimore, Maryland.
It started out Sunday with our three services. I gave a Palm Sunday message for Morning
Worship. At Kids' Church the kids made welcome banners for Jesus like they might for a
victory parade. We hung those banners on the wall around the cross. Danny lead the
devotions during Evening Worship.
Following Evening Worship I was invited to the young adult group. After dinner together
I led the group through a personality profile session and then we talked about how it
related to interpersonal relationships and ministry.
Tom, a 33 year old member of the congregation, had a heart attack this week. It was his
second one. We're waiting to find out what needs to be done medically to keep this from
happening again.
Wednesday was the wettest day in March Baltimore has seen in over 100 years. Because of
that we only had about half the normal crowd at SonRisers. Those who came were soaking
wet. A few tried to get a little drier by putting their wet coats over the heat vents.
We met with the builder Wednesday afternoon to pick out colors for the exterior of the
building. He left samples with us and we emailed him our decision to him on Friday.
That night at Adult Disciples we discussed the book of Judges. The book of Ruth was in
our assigned reading but we didn't talk about it much since we had done a full study of
it about a year ago.
We received a poem this week from Jimmie Radliff. In the past she's written poetry for
special occasions in the congregation and songs for the kids to sing. With our upcoming
10th anniversary we asked if she would write another one and her reply included the text.
On Thursday evening we showed the movie "The Passion of the Christ." About 10
people came to watch it. 5 high school kids stopped by and wanted to come in. However,
because of the film's "R" rating we required that their parents attend with
them if they wanted to see it.
We opened the church from noon until 3:00 p.m. on Friday for prayer, reflection, and
scripture reading. People came and went as time permitted. Later that day, all three
groups at Pizza Church studied the crucifixion and resurrection accounts.
One kid who has never been to camp before brought $20 with him to Pizza Church. He's so
excited and ready to go he wanted to give us the money for camp now so that he could make
sure he had a spot.
On Saturday morning Jenn and I distributed fliers in the neighborhood encouraging
participation in Easter services. We handed out 750-800 fliers in a two hour period.
Most of the fliers were simply stuck in mail slots and under doors. We did knock on
doors, though, at the new houses that people are moving into just a few blocks from the
church.
Saturday evening brought Sundae Church. We had a good time hearing stories from the kids
and eating ice cream together.
Jenn has recently started putting together worship centers for Morning Worship. She set
up her one for Easter on Saturday night after Sundae Church.
Looking ahead to next week we have our full schedule of activities. The only adjustment
due to school being out for spring break is the cancellation of SonRisers.
Along with the individuals and activities mentioned as well as the continued progress on
our building project, please keep the following individuals in the forefront of your
